SAU's Huey earns softball GAC Player of the Week honor

The Great American Conference announced on Monday that Southern Arkansas' Jenna Huey has been named the league's player of the week. This marks the first time in Huey time with the Lady Muleriders that she has been awarded the honor while she also becomes the second SAU women's softball athlete to earn the weekly plaudit joining Regan Dillon, who captured the honor on Feb. 5.

The junior from Rimrock, AZ, was credited the honor after her efforts at the plate assisted the Lady Muleriders in earning three wins out of their five outings over the last week. Huey recorded a batting average of .611 with 11 hits coming on 18 at-bats.

She recorded four runs, 11 runs batted in, 21 total bases, a double, and scored three home runs. Over the five games, Huey accounted for a slugging percentage of 1.167 and an on base percentage of .650. In the field, the Muleriders' first base occupant was responsible for 24 putouts and one assist as well as a perfect fielding percentage.

With Huey's success last week, her hitting streak sits at five games after recording a pair of hits in all five contests. The junior accounted for an RBI in the last five games, in which the first of those five resulted in seven RBIs against Delta State on Feb. 19.

She and the Lady Muleriders will be back in action this weekend when they host the Ouachita Baptist Lady Tigers in a three-game GAC series starting Friday.
